Happy Fourth of July!

Just popping in from rolling smoke bombs under my tacky neighbor's lawn chair... hold on as I stick my fingers in my ears (for the explosion of cussing)... anyway, just taking a moment to say Happy Fourth of July fellow Americans - and happy Monday to those who don't do the Independence Day thing, though I think you can never underestimate the power of having a day celebrating independence!
"I declare independence from the dictates of fashion and good taste by wearing my towels in public as clothing."
In honor of the day, am sharing a few WWII patriotic vintage goodies:

An all time favorite Find... $5 for what turned out to be a hand sewn "Victory" apron - absolutely perfect.
Dot-Dot-Dot-Dash = V, for Victory (from the apron). The other is a "Victory Cloth" a small table covering for a table that was often set in the window of a deployed soldier with photos and mementos on it.

My father's various wings and insignia over his 25 yr career - including WWII, Korea and VietNam.
A Booklet on how to make your meat rations last longer, by being a smart housewife. Ever wonder how we went from this to commemorating our independence by eating hot dogs and potato chips?
Okay, now back to shooting bottle rockets onto my neighbor's roof . Oh, you'd do it too if you lived next door to that yappy-dog-wielding, trash-can-knockin'-over, gets-the-mail-in-her-babydoll-nightie-when-she-should- be-wearing-a-granny-gown you-know-who that I live next door to. Fireworks, just think of them as a fancy way of saying 'howdy'!

  2. After the description of your neighbor, I think I'll keep mine. He's a quiet, creepy little guy that I never hear a peep out of...but I think he's streaming porn videos out of one of his spare bedrooms. Quiet goes a long way though.

  5. I'm totally loving that apron! Very cool tribute to your dad too.

Have a fabulous fourth! I just posted mini apron "beverage" covers on my blog. My mother found them for me. They even have teeny tiny pockets.

  6. Thanks y'all... my actual troublesome neighbors burned their house down a couple years ago for the insurance money, it didn't work. But what fodder for stories they provided.

Happy 4th! Kim can't wait to see the beverage covers.

  7. LOVE the apron!!!!

lmao@Dana and the streaming porn guy. If mine are quiet, I could care less what they do!

    My neighbors...

One blasts his music all summer long. Oh they sound like they are having fun, but by dark, I need to sleep. I get sick of that bass pumping through my house late into the night.

The other one fires up his smoky stinkie BBQ grill every damn day lol. Pours stinkie smoke into my house for hours. I'm getting tired of smelling smoke and my air freshner.

The third one? Yappy dog, Uh huh. Times I dream of moving into a quiet retirement community.

    Happy July Fourth!!!
